About Me
Hi there, my name is Makena!
I am a wife and a mother to all the things: a beautiful girl, a baby on the way, 2 dogs, and 4 chickens (I'm hoping to add more chickens and some bees to that list).
I have always been drawn to any position I can help others in. In my first pregnancy, I started with an OB then switched over to a Midwife. I saw both ways of caring for women. Very quickly I became passionate about learning all the things to do with pregnancy. I had the beautiful expereince of having children around the same time my best friends did too. I saw how different each one of or birth and postpartum expereinces were and how all of our needs were different too.
I became very interested in reading and learning all I could about women, babies, pregnancy, labor, and postpartum.
I serve on the board of A Parent's Paradise Charities and have served women with them in both labor and postpartum capacities. I have seen the difference doula care can make and I am passionate about making it accessible to anyone who wants it.
I believe each family is unique and deserves a unique approach to their postpartum services. I also believe whole heartedly that each family will make the best decisions for them. I will provide resources, help, and advice but never judgment. I am open to supporting families of all types, resources, and backgrounds.
I believe birth and the postpartum season are meant to be supported, honored, and gently held — not rushed or managed. My work as a doula is rooted in calm presence, deep listening, and respect for each family’s unique rhythm.
I deeply believe income should not be a barrier for doula support. If income is an issue, please contact A Parent’s Paradise Charities. They offer scholarships for doula care within the area. I have worked with them multiple times and serve on the board.
